Not A Miracle but Close
Thank you, neighbors, Good Riddance Hauling, and RTP Works.

Just prior to shutting down for our two-week break over the winter holiday, RTP received a call from the Petaluma Fire Marshal. EMTs were dispatched the evening before to the home of a senior with mobility issues and long-term health concerns.
A neighbor made the call after a wellness check revealed the homeowner was stranded in a recliner, dehydrated, disoriented, and in need of medical assistance.
When paramedics arrived, they could barely reach the homeowner in the back room due to piles of items and debris that had collected over time. They followed a narrow path to the back of the home. No other room was accessible. Luckily and skillfully, the homeowner was extracted safely and taken to the hospital.
RTP was contacted to see if we could assist with a home cleanup effort. And I have to say, when we first visited the home, my initial response was, “No.”
Yes, there was debris. Yes, there were pests, of all sorts. Yes, it was obvious that this had been an issue for a while. But yes, this was the only place the homeowner could return to after recovery and release.
Out of respect for privacy, I’m not going to share any more info except to say thank you to Good Riddance Hauling for going above and beyond what can be asked of a demolition and hauling contractor. Simon’s team did a wonderful job of sorting what could be salvaged and clearing what couldn’t.
Thank you to the RTP Works team who were there that first day, then came back to the emptied home to make repairs and scrub it clean.
Thank you to RTP staff, who selflessly gave time during vacation to address this need, and continue to plan and arrange the repairs necessary for the homeowner’s return.
And a very special thank you to friends and neighbors who helped in a time of need, tended to the homeowner’s concerns while recuperating, and are now raising funds to help replace furniture and appliances that couldn’t be saved.
Please reach out to your friends, neighbors, and loved ones, especially seniors who live alone. Check in on them. Visit them. Go inside.
